D3 is a vitamin, which is obtained through the diet or from contact with sunlight on your skin, which ends up being converted into vitamin D by the body.


Whether you take D2 or D3, they still end up becoming vitamin D. However, there’s a big difference in the benefits of D3 over D2, or any other vitamin out there. When D3 is taken as a supplement it doesn’t only promote muscle gain and fat-loss in the body, but it also makes you healthier in a number of ways.




Vitamin D3 was discovered to be more effective in raising blood levels of vitamin D in research conducted in the 1980’s, 90’s, and 2005. D3 also has a more stable shelf life, which allows it to remain effective for long periods of time, even if exposed to high temperature, humidity, etc.



Vitamin D Deficiency…

In a study published in March 2010 by the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, it was discovered that 59 percent of the population is vitamin D deficient. 25 percent of the subjects were found to have extremely low levels of vitamin D. 

Being vitamin D deficient means that you’re more likely to experience cardiovascular disease, cognitive impairment in older adults, severe asthma in children, cancer, type 1 and type 2 diabetes, hypertension, glucose intolerance and multiple sclerosis.



Get it from…

Vitamin D is taken into the body through consuming fish, egg yolks, cheese, fortified milk, and beef liver. Most people however don’t eat enough of these things.

Vitamin D is also created when your skin is exposed to the sunlight. However, in the past decade, people living in urban areas tend to stay indoors more, making it harder to maintain healthy vitamin D levels.

On top of that if you happen to live in a country, which doesn’t get much sunlight, it is highly likely that you are vitamin D deficient!



Obesity & D3…

People who are obese are also very likely to be vitamin D deficient. Since fat cells absorb vitamin D from the blood, having a body mass index of 30 or greater will result in low blood levels of vitamin D.



Vitamin D Deficiency Impacts Muscle Mass…

Vitamin D deficiency causes muscle weakness as well as “performance speed and proximal muscle strength.” This means that not having enough vitamin D will not only hinder your training performance; but it will also impact the rate at which you gain muscle.



Vitamin D Supplements Increase Fat-Loss…

In a Dr Oz show, Keri Peterson came on explaining the benefits of vitamin D for weight loss. He mentioned that nearly 70% of the population is vitamin D deficient and that 75% are overweight. Peterson went on to talk about the benefits of vitamin D on losing weight.

These benefits included: tones belly fat, turns body into fat burning mode instead of storing, reduces high blood pressure, forms stronger bones, fights osteoporosis, protects against cancer, boosts natural immune system and reduces inflammation and joint stiffness.

In a report for the 91st annual meeting of the Endocrine Society, it was also mentioned that for every increase of 1 ng/mL of vitamin D3, subjects ended up losing .2kg more than people that didn’t take the D3 supplement.




In modern times, simply exercising isn’t enough for our bodies anymore. We need to make sure we’re getting enough sunlight, vitamins, and eating healthy food.
